Great Way to Begin the New Year
The subject line of the email dated 1/2/10 read: OH MY GOD…I JUST GOT A LETTER THAT I THOUGHT WAS FROM YOU… and it was from Erica Green, a client who has become a dear friend.
In many of my Mastermind and Transitions groups, I have the participants write a letter to themselves at our last session. The instructions are to create a vision of their future by writing the letter as though what they hope to achieve has already happened. Putting your goals in writing is the A-#1 tool for accomplishing them.
The date is six months to a year away, which was the case with Erica’s letter. She had written it in June. I tucked hers, and everyone else’s from that group, into my December tickler file to be mailed at year’s end. That was what Erica found in her mailbox Saturday morning.
This is her response:
"I just came home from my morning walk that I started in the dark and opened the mailbox. What? An envelope from Jane? [I put all of my clients' letters in my business envelopes.] A bill perhaps? I must owe her more money because the benefits of our time together are exponential. And I miss seeing and talking with her.
I was startled by the script on the letterhead. It didn’t look like your handwriting and then again it did. (Our handwriting is somewhat similar and your style, in more ways than one, feels very familiar.)
I kept looking at it. But is says “Dear Erica”? Finally I figured it out! I wrote this so long ago that I forgot about it and from a very different place. WOW! I haven’t even had time to process what I just read and I am flabbergasted!
You cannot believe the power of my letter to myself…or, more importantly, my intentions. I wrote so beautifully and lovingly to myself. And my actions far exceeded anything I could have imagined on that day in June.
You brought it out in us and me especially. Wow."
On November 12 of last year Erica debuted her Big Connect the dream she had been imagining for years and had come to my group to realize. She sure did. Click here and share with me how you like to get your New Year started.
Highlights from My Blog
My friend Mike, who has defined himself in many ways throughout his entrepreneurial life, is on the road a lot dealing with clients. When someone asked him recently where his office was he replied, “In my pocket.” Like so many of us, the BlackBerry or however you name what tethers you to your business, he is on call all the time. I haven’t taken that leap…yet. Read more...
I’ve had the good fortune to be in the capable hands of Pauline Sasaki for over 20 years. Pauline and I have established our own special ritual for our December session. (I see her once a month for maintenance.) I have my 5pm healing appointment, then we go out for dinner and catch up eyeball-to-eyeball on the past year. Our date was last night, and I am filled with the magic of being in the presence of Pauline’s wisdom. Read more...
I spent the last three days going in and out of New York City for visits with family, attending theatre and shopping. Living only 50 miles from my favorite metropolis makes it an easy commute. Besides having wonderful times during my scheduled activities, I came across some surprisingly creative entrepreneurs en route about whom I wanted to share. Read more...
Happy New Year!
