Susan Beallor Snyder – Artist
“Art is my full-time job,” said Susan Beallor-Snyder. “I’ve filled up my life with art so nothing else can get in.”*
Susan and I have been working together for years, and she is now exactly where she wants to be in her artistic career. Until about a year ago, Susan was constantly balancing multiple demands–raising kids, attending corporate functions with her husband, sitting on boards, volunteering, maintaining household(s) and taking classes. All of which she did successfully and with love.
But her younger daughter just graduated from college and she and her husband recently purchased a home in Connecticut with a barn that doubles as Susan’s studio. She has now fully committed her time to her art, and it’s pretty much all she wants to do.
Her dedication to her creativity is manifesting in multiple ways – a commission to have her sculptural art featured in the lobby area of a new building, a guest teaching stint at the Children’s Museum of Art NYC, plus an exhibit of her work as part of the Sculptors Guild on Governors Island this coming weekend.
When your calendar is dedicated to working on your passion, requests for less meaningful engagements are easy to refuse. What is your full-time job these days? Are you saying “no” as often as you’d like?
*Professionally, Susan added. Family, exercise, eating well, gardening and learning about sustainable farming are also important to her.
