What’s Your Ding, Ding, Ding?

Some of my best ideas for blog posts come from people’s reactions to my coaching prompts. A very talented musician I know mentioned a persona he’s created that has freed him up to be more adventurous in his music writing and singing.

But he’s never taken this character on the road. When he mentioned to me that he was offered a chance to perform locally at an open mic night, I said, “Why don’t you show up as your persona for that gig?”

His expression confirmed my belief that this would be a challenge and a stretch, but also exciting.

“Ding ding ding!” he said with a big smile on his face accompanied by arched eyebrows and a slight look of terror in his eyes.

I’ve been taught to blurt what my inner voice is telling me whenever I’m coaching or interacting with business owners. I used to judge my thoughts and edit them, but found that expressing them outright had a more profound impact on the receiver. I believe these thoughts are not my own but divinely inspired and I’m simply a channel to give them voice.

The acid test to my blurts is the shocked look and delighted expression on the person hearing my idea. Rarely do I get a “no.” More often, the response is, “Ya think I could do that?!”

My challenge is a combination of a dare and a belief.

Have you had a ding-ding-ding moment recently?
