Liz LaForte of LaForte Consulting
You know how hard it is to find an employee or even a subcontractor? It’s like dating. You want to be sure it’s a good fit, but who wants to spend the time required to make that happen? Or, you need to let go of a working relationship that’s not working. How do you even begin, and what are the repercussions of a dismissal?
Along comes Liz LaForte, the owner of LaForte Consulting, LLC, who generously shared her expertise with my CT Mastermind Intensive in early December. She is an independent HR company that can swoop into your entrepreneurial business–for a few hours or weeks– and help you with the specific issue that’s keeping you up at night.
If you’ve been in business for yourself for more than 10 minutes, you know that a shortcut or two is inevitable. As Liz so humorously put it, “Don’t let Uncle Larry do your wiring!” And if he did do it, she’s there to step in and help you out of the jam he may have created.
She can help with onboarding new hires, develop your policies and procedures notebook, and train employees in the ways of your company’s culture to name a few of her skills.
I can’t tell you how often I’ve asked a client, “What does your contract say?” regarding payment amounts, timing of payment, etc. There’s often an embarrassed silence followed by, “Er, I don’t have anything in writing.” Most of my clients have heard me say, “Well, the money you just lost is the tuition you’ve paid to learn that painful lesson.” I rarely mention tuition twice.
Fortunately, there’s Liz who can step in before you even get to one of these unpleasant crossroads. We all benefited from the stories she told and the knowledge that there’s someone like Liz out there.
