JANE POLLAK was born out of the onset of the 2020 pandemic. Jane sewed her first pillow design during a workshop on Penny Rugs at the Guilford Art Center the weekend before the shutdown. With enough material to craft a second pillow and a locked-down New York City, Jane began creating these cushions for her own home, family and friends. Soon after, she was encouraged to create an Etsy shop. The demand grew from there.

Pollak is well-known in the art world for her highly sought-after business, An Egg by Jane, for 30 years, which she founded and operated from 1973 – 2003. Featured on The Today Show and The New York Times, her work is part of the collection of the Smithsonian, and she was a popular guest on HGTV and CBS News.

As she started to embark on a new chapter in 2020, she discovered and fell in love with the process of textiles and working with fabrics. She had much flowing towards her to encourage and support her efforts—emails pointing her toward experts in the field, a phone call directing her to an antiques shop on NYC’s Upper West Side where she got sage advice about the quality of her materials, friends shipping her their old button collections, all points were aligned, and Pollak decided to begin this new venture and follow her new passion.

Starting with inspiration from European paintings, Modern American and contemporary works, her designs evolve from digital explorations into fresh, original and sumptuous textile pieces, hand-stitched using buttons, beads, layers of wool and accent stitching.

JANE POLLAK provides contemporary, one-of-a-kind textiles that provide unique visual statements for interior designers, collectors and sophisticated style makers to differentiate their environments. The works are created with the finest custom-dyed felted wool, Perle cotton threads, vintage buttons and glass seed beads from Czechoslovakia and Japan. Her pillows are filled with down and feather inserts (or hypo-allergenic alternatives as needed). Every piece is designed and hand-made by Jane. She creates 40-50 pieces per year.
