Heather Habelka on Writing

Heather Habelka

I get so much out of attending the Entrepreneurial Women’s Club (EWC) in Stamford, CT that I don’t even mind the commute from NYC that I make once a month.

The October lunch was an great example of why I choose to attend.

I was picked up at the train station by the amazing Liz LaForte, the Founder and President of LaForte Consulting, enjoyed quick exchanges on the ride to Serendipity Labs where the EWC event is held, and more on the return trip.

We arrived to a roomful of colleagues in Connecticut, clients, vendors and friends. We introduced ourselves over lunch, then Heather Habelka, the Founder and current President, gave her top tips for writing after pointing out eloquently, that we are all writers.

Here are the great take-aways from that session, including feedback and contributions from the audience:

  • Give good verbs (!)
  • Prune – an example of one of Heather’s fine verb choices
  • Read your writing out loud. I take this a step further by recording it, then listening to how it sounds.
  • One member recommended the website Grammarly.com for watching your words beyond spellcheck. I just signed up.
  • An app that will evaluate your headline – headline analyzer via co-schedule
  • Remember that your reader is royalty.

Thank you, Heather!
