On Monday night over 30 women gathered at the magnificent Eileen Fisher store at the Westchester in White Plains, NY. These were women business owners who came from three states (NY, CT and NJ) to meet other remarkable women and exchange ideas and inspiration. Here they are in small groups for intimate exchanges regarding issues in their companies and lives.
I’d been visualizing this evening for over a year. The form changed, but the environment and the feeling were exactly as I’d imagined.
Interestingly, my feeling on the way home although peaceful and satisfied was somewhat flat. When I described it to my good friend and goal buddy she was not surprised. “You’ve realized your vision, Jane,” she said. “You’ve gotten to a very high level which many people would envy. For you, though, it’s a plateau while you decide what your next vision will be.”
Plateaus, of course, are elevated but level.
If I were one of my clients I’m sure I’d be telling her to celebrate, take a break, re-energize for what’s next and allow things to manifest. But, my gremlins are responding, “You just took a month off. You must do something important.”
Ah, success. It can be a double-edged sword. I think I’ll choose the self-care advice and hush those gremlins up. Spa, anyone?

Take the spa day, Jane. You deserve it. It was a wonderful evening.
I do get the sense that you are on the precipice (or high plateau) of something new. You never know, it could manifest between the massage and the pedicure.
Meanwhile, last night was an opportunity to tackle one of my gremlins. With all of the other great things happening in my life, I have not been motivated to put together the Room Redesign course I am teaching in October. I put it out there to my able group: Margaret Wagner, Lynne Marino and Jessica Bram. Empowered and motivated by their energy and enthusiasm, I made a plan as soon as I got home last night and committed to it in an e-mail to the three of them. I put the dates that I will finish each step on my calendar, including (thanks Jessica for sharing this!) a mock presentation to friends in my home prior to my Sept. 30th drop dead date. Just knowing that I have a written plan in place meant that last night I slept like a rock. Gremlin be gone…
And, most importantly, I booked my incentive/reward at the end: a day in Westbrook with the Idea Circle for Women on October 1st. After all, you would tell me that I should take a day to celebrate a big success…
So drop kick your gremlins and then let us know how you celebrate!
@Catherine
You’re very convincing! I’ve been taking it really easy these last few days of summer–pre-Labor Day. I do feel restored and ready for whatever is next. So glad you were able to attend.
