My Soul Proprietor Community meets this Friday at noon (EDT), and the topic is Thou Shalt Not Do It All Thyself. I’m a huge proponent of delegating and love converting women business owners particularly to the skill set of letting go and trusting others to help them build their businesses.

My wonderful 2-year old granddaughter Chloe wants to (and CAN!) do everything herself, but it’s not a formula for growth and success in a business. While writing the script for this week’s session, I found myself mesmerized by an interview with Gloria Estefan in AARP Magazine about her business. Frankly, I had name recognition, but little else regarding her enterprise. Turns out, she’s a virtual industry. The sentence that screamed out to me in the article was this one:

When the music business took a downturn 10 years ago and the couple were struggling to support their 3000 employees, they found jobs for them in their hotels on South Beach and in Vero Beach, and in their restaurants in Miami, Hollywood and Orlando.

Three thousand employees!! I can still remember my first hire and how scary it was to let go of the 100% control I had maintained up until that point. The freedom of allowing another capable person to accomplish a task for you in your business is rewarding, reinforcing and begins the process of your business growth.

I speak with a lot of women business owners who have yet to let go of that control. I appreciate the struggle, but know that until you do, you limit your ultimate success. Reading about a superstar like Ms. Estefan underscores the enormity of possibilities when you realize the exponential growth that’s possible.
