If you didn’t get to the theatre to see Love, Gilda, it’s available streaming online, and I recommend it.

She was a treat to watch on SNL all those years ago. Seeing her in this documentary about her life reminded me of how lovable and thoroughly entertaining she was. When Gilda Radner was in the room, she outshone everyone, even John Belushi. Did you know that she was Saturday Night Live’s FIRST hire?!

She kept journals which are read by luminaries of today’s comedy scene: Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler and Bill Hader (plus more) who are visibly touched by her words.

What leapt out to me, and the wisdom I want to share with you came at the end of the film when she is clear that she is not going to beat the cancer. She had thought, after going into remission once, that she had it all licked and that she had the answers. However, later, as her death became imminent, she came to the conclusion that, “It’s about not knowing.”

Those words are speaking to me very loudly now at this time of fear, the unknown and the omnipresent turning of the calendar pages. It was nice to laugh a lot and also given wisdom for dealing with life today.
