Don’t Miss In Transit: Great Entrepreneurial Message

My boyfriend Dave performed at the Sharon Playhouse last summer in Big River alongside its star, Nicholas Ward, an Equity actor from NYC. After that performance in July, Nicholas headed back to the city for a role in In Transit, an a cappella musical that, among other things, is about that time in your life when your career is a work in progress.

Dave and I went to see it last Saturday having scored 40% off tickets on the TKTS line that were in the second row, perfect for this performance on a thrust stage. I loved every minute of it and sat up straighter during the scenes that involved the character Jane (really!), an actress seeking her big break. In the meantime, she’s earning a living as a fabulous, albeit not very happy, temp. Her passion is musical theatre, and we see her cycle of auditions and rejections being played out through the course of the show.

I laughed hysterically at this song – “Do What I Do” which is all about what I call the “B job” you go to to earn enough money so that you can pursue your “A job”–your vision.

Later in the show, after a major disappointment, we re-visit Jane at her temp job where she is encouraged to give up the dream. Somehow, this number “A Little Friendly Advice,” was also extremely funny, particularly knowing it’s delivered tongue-in-cheek.

We weren’t the only ones who loved the show. Dave had contacted Nicholas to let him know we’d be in the audience. He told Dave that Paul McCartney had been there earlier in the week and Bill Clinton had visited recently as well.

I strongly encourage you to go see this delightful show. Do let me know if you had as good a time as I did.

Loved this, Jane. I clicked through and viewed a bunch of videos about the show, the writers, the actors, etc. Looks delightful. And the theme of “making connections” is what you do. And what I do. What a brilliant concept to use the subway!

@Diane – You’d so love this show! The energy, the movement, the personalities, the use of the stage. Just great! BTW, if you have access to TDF, their price is $47 per ticket. Perhaps take your son…
